Outcome

flipsit.jpg

Flip is a café chair that enables people to use small spaces in more versatile and practical ways. Its backrest flips out and provides a small surface on which users can place their coffee cup, iPad, or book.

Flip solves the problem of cramped sitting with its adjustable backrest that can easily transform into a small working surface when the user sits sideways.

A result of the innumerable hours spent trying to find a spot to work in London’s many a small and crowded coffee shop, Flip fortunately can put a little bit more flexibility in your day.

Challenge

To investigate how people enjoy coffee in modern days and to suggest a creative solution to enhance the experience.

Research and Insights

Ethnographic Research

I visited several cafés in London, mostly independent ones to see what london coffee culture looks like. From the numerous café visits I had, I looked at people working on their computers or reading books.

Sitting posture

While analysing sitting postures and sketching, it became apparent that a new work surface could be created by sliding back the backrest.
